Area Director, Boys and Girls Club of Muncie

My name is Kiana Clemens and I'm the area director for the Boys & Girls Club of Muncie. The Boys & Girls Club is just here for our youth, the kids who need us most. We wanna serve our community. We do a lot of after-school programming, healthy lifestyles, character development, and those sort of things so we're just here for most of the kids that need us. As a director of operations, I do pretty much everything. I am responsible for all four club sites, so at our Boys & Girls Club we have four units and I oversee all of the staff, all of the management, all of the budgets, all of basic operations for all of our programs. Our programs run at each of the four sites after school time which is from two to six P.M. for elementary students, and then from around three o'clock to eight P.M. for those teenage students. I am very involved with the kids. As the director of operations, I have my hands in everything. I make sure that the staffing is there and in days, for instance, like today, where we are short-staffed, I jump in and my office is right there inside the club so most of the kids know me and they see me and they know if my door's closed, 'Oh, she's writing a grant or she's doing something that requires her door to be closed.' Cause I usually have an open door policy and the kids will come in and out. I do some of the homework help, the tutoring. I'm pretty good at math so a lot of times the students will come and talk to me about math homework but I do interact with the kids a lot, that's one of the fun parts about my job. I usually start my day at nine and I end anywhere between six and seven-ish and then, but most of the time regular business hours is what I do specifically, so it gives me a little bit of time with the kids cause they get out of school at two and so it gives me from two to five if anything needs to happen and some nights I have to stay a little bit later but traditionally we run regular business hours of nine to five or 10 to six.
